Executive Director Rachel

Hey, I'm Rachel Karin Popkin, frequently known as Raych or RK. Thanks for visiting my bio page! I'm 20 and from beautiful and not-as-rainy-as-everyone-says Seattle, WA. Nowadays I live in Cambridge, MA, during the school year. I'm an undergraduate at Harvard, where I spend a lot of time hanging around with cool queer/allied people instead of doing my homework. I'm studying psychology and computer-geekery.

I joined the YOUTH13-17 list when I was 15. I'd just realized that I wasn't straight and was pretty scared about what that meant for my life, and the list gave me a sense of community and a faith that things could be ok for me someday. My friends on the list gave me the confidence and encouragement I needed to start coming out, they celebrated with me when my real life friends turned out to be supportive, and they commiserated when a few of them weren't. I can't describe how wonderful a gift the list has been to me - but join it and find out for yourself!

When I'm not glued to my computer working for YGS, I sing a lot. I'm in a women's choir - actually, I've been singing in one women's choir or another since I was 9, it's a huge part of my life. I'm also a pretty big computer geek, and I turn my nerdaliciousness into $$$ by working tech support at Harvard. I'm a big musical theater dork, and I know all of the words to RENT and way too many other shows. I also love the Indigo Girls, Dar Williams, and stuff like that. I have a weakness for snarky movies about teenagers, like Mean Girls, CAMP, and Saved!, and I'm also a big fan of science fiction.
