I'm Dom and I'm 20. I'm originally from Brooklyn, NY but I now attend school at University at Buffalo, State University of New York. Buffalo is a nice city - it's not the same as New York City (then again, what is?), but I can tolerate it. I've made many friends up here and love hanging out with them. Often, we have to find things to do on the weekends, but it's ok. Before you know it, the weekends are over, and you're back at class, enjoying the time spent with your friends.
I started with YGS at the age of 14 (I think). I was just a subscriber then. Of course, being in New York City, I knew I had all these wonderful resources available to me - but going online was the safest thing I could do. So I did that. When there was an opening on the YOUTH13-17 for an Assistant List Manager, I applied for it and got the job. I stayed with that until I turned 18 and aged out of the list. During that time, there was an all-staff meeting and problems were presented. One of the problems was the area of subscriptions. I offered to take over that job as well, and sure enough, I got it. So now I was handling ALM of 13-17, and Subscriptions. Not too bad.
At one point, Kristen Foery had to leave her position for a while (she went to France for 3 months), so Jason offered me another task - take up part of Kristen's job, which was handling errors. Of course, I agreed. YGS had helped me in so many ways...this was my way of repaying the favor. So now I was doing three jobs - ALM, Subscriptions and Errors.
Soon though, I had aged out of the 13-17 List and was bumped up to the 17-21 List. Upon my arrival there, I was asked if I'd like to continue being an ALM on that list - I agreed, as I enjoyed the job. But that wasn't going to last long. The List Manager then, Patrick Quealy, had to step down for personal reasons. Jason asked me to step up to bat. What do you think my answer was? Of course, yes!
So now I was doing List Manager, Subscriptions, and the Errors. I was also serving as untitled liasion to the Executive Staff - it just kinda happened that way. Soon enough, I was nominated (and subsequently elected) to the Board of Directors. And Just recently, I was appointed to the position of YOUTH Lists Coordinator.
That's pretty much where I stand now. I'm now lucky if I get to spend 3 hours a day on my computer - I spend so much time at school, it's insane.
But that's what the weekends are for, right?
